We started our camping journey with a tent, sleeping bags, a Coleman stove, water jugs, and very minimal cooking gear. In total, we had only spent less than $100 to get our setup going. Believe it or not, those are some of my best camping memories. We used what we had and made it work. Nowadays, camping has become a competition on who has the latest and greatest camping gear. Most people have lost touch with just getting out and enjoying nature. Don't get me wrong, if I had the funds or a sponsor who allowed me to get the latest and greatest, I would jump all over it
Just because I call myself 'the broke overlander' doesn't mean I am actually broke. What I mean by that is that I choose to spend the money I have on other things that have uses outside of camping, not just on overlanding trips. I am resourceful when it comes to my overlanding and camping setup. I choose to build most things I can and only spend money on things I can't. When I do decide to purchase something, I always look for a good deal. Over the years, I have found many ways to become more resourceful when acquiring overlanding gear to help us be more comfortable and get more out of our trips. I plan to do my best to share that information and make it available to all.
"This is our main overlanding vehicle that allows us to get to remote and beautiful places. Believe it or not, this was a budget rig when I bought it. It took a lot of elbow grease to get it to where it is today. I had to replace the entire drivetrain to get it to work
"This is our main overland camper. It is the ultimate budget setup. Most of the components are DIY. The camper was built by me, and the tent was repaired by me. If you would like to see the build progress check out the YouTube to see the build and future builds.
